The 3rd Annual Rocky Mountain Illini Club Architectural Tour
It will shift from the downtown area this year to Cherry Creek.
It was the vision of Illinois alum,Temple Buell, in the 1940s to transform Denver's city dump into one of the most vibrant commercial and residential neighborhoods in the Rocky Mountain West. The tour will be led by U of I architects Dennis Humphries, BS 73, MA 79, and Joe Poli, BS 74, MA 76 who co-founded the architectural practice of Humphries Poli Architects and were responsible for the design of several mixed use buildings in Cherry Creek. Joe has also lived in the neighborhood for nearly twenty years and was deeply involved in the planning that shaped the neighborhood. You won't want to miss the opportunity to learn why Cherry Creek has been so successful.
The tour will start in the plaza in front of Nordstrom'st 10:30 AM on Saturday, June 13, 2026. We will start gathering at 1015am.
We will wander through Cherry Creek North exploring the reasons why the area is the current office and retail destination of choice. We will finish the tour in front of the Neiman Marcus store.
We will be walking approximately 1.5 miles- so wear comfortable shoes, bring sunscreen, and dress in layers.
Parking in the garage of the Shopping Mall is most likely the best option.
An optional lunch will be available at Ash and Agave, located within the Shopping Mall, for further discussion and fellowship.
Menu: Build-your-own tacos (vegetarian, carnitas, and chicken), served with chips, salsa, and sides including verde rice and charro beans.
Beverages are not included but will be available for purchase à la carte.
Cost: $32 per person (includes 8% tax and 20% gratuity).

Attendance is limited to 50 participants. A waitlist will be created if the event reaches capacity.
Suggested Donation: $10 per attendee, supporting our 2027 Scholarship Fund.
